Search file in linux by file name

As you said, you remember the filename, then you can simply use below command from your root folder:

find . -name students.csv

Output will be full path of file if found:

/data/school/students.csv

I usually use below command to search for a file using name and type-

find / -type f -name "*.conf"

The above command would traverse the entire directory to locate all regular files ending with .conf.
